About the role

WHY VOLUNTEER AT BLENDER STUDIOS?
Volunteering at the Blender Studios provides selected candidates with a truly unique, fun and energetic pathway to gain a more cohesive understanding of the daily operations of an innovative arts institution, build contacts and networks in the visual arts industry, learn about the Blenders artistic and public programs and become part of the Blender community.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The Blender Studios Volunteer Program is a new initiative that aims to provide artists and art lovers with the rare opportunity to be at the coal face of Melbourne’s exciting contemporary art scene. Our volunteers will gain an overall understanding of artist studio coordination, gallery operations, public projects and events focusing principally upon front of house activities. We aim to ensure our volunteers feel part of the crew and the experience of volunteering with us is positive, purposeful, engaging and mutually beneficial to all involved.

VOLUNTEER ROLE
Under direction from the director, this role is to assist across all aspects of the Blender Studios daily front of house operations, including customer service, reception duties, operating the shop, conducting visitor surveys, basic administrative tasks, as well as assist the delivery of various events and public programs.

ABOUT THE BLENDER STUDIOS
The Blender Studios was founded by artist Adrian Doyle in 2000. Originally located in a warehouse on Franklin Street in Melbourne’s CBD, the Blender Studios housed 22 artist studios and for the first time in Australian art history, purposely created a space where street artists and fine artists connect, resulting in an evocative, creative hub in the contemporary Melbourne art scene.

In June 2017, the Blender Studios relocated to the Docklands. The Blender still operates as a hub for artists and creatives and maintains its strong underground current. Today the Blender has grown to an organisation that provides:

Melbourne Street Art Tours
Melbourne Street Art Tours engages current, high profile street artists to guide people through the streets of Melbourne and shows them who the artists of the street works are, what technical aspects are involved in spray painting, stencil art and paste-ups and what significant role the artists have made in making Melbourne one of the most important destinations in the world for Street Art.

Blender Art & Design Market
The Blender Art and Design market is located in the brand spanking new Art Collective hub of Docklands featuring some of Melbourne’s most creative and skilful artists and designers. During summer annually, the Blender Art & Design Market not only has high quality and design pieces for sale, it has live music and entertainment throughout the night.

Dark Horse Experiment Gallery
The Dark Horse Experiment aims to push the boundaries of contemporary art, and create a space and market for contemporary artists. From sell out shows to cutting edge exhibitions, performances and installation, the Dark Horse is always searching for artists who think outside the white cube.

Public art projects and programs
Working with a plethora of diversely talented artists, the Blender Studios undertakes ambitious projects such as:
• Street Art workshops
• Customised public art programs, projects and events
• Murals

All projects work with the community to enhance long term results.

So, from its conception to now, the Blender Studios has organically transformed into an art ideas factory where nearly anything goes. There is no art hierarchy and everyone is always welcome.

It’s always about the memories punk.
