About the role

About the Role

The Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts is an inspirational centre of training excellence and innovation for contemporary dance, music, and acting. Vibrant and diverse, we are the only centre offering courses that incorporate all performing arts genres, including classes dedicated to Indigenous cultural fusion.

We’re funded by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Department of Education and Training; but we rely on philanthropic assistance and grants to keep the fees for attaining our nationally accredited courses as affordable as possible, especially now that VET Student Loans are no longer offered for arts training.

We need your expertise in identifying, writing and submitting grants so we can continue to provide a learning environment which is challenging, demanding, motivating and, above all, nurturing of the talents of our young and emerging artists.

We won’t need to call on your time and expertise every week; rather, just when you or we identify government and philanthropic grant programs that match ACPA’s activities, vision, and values (throughout Australia and possibly overseas).

Working with us to secure grant funding will give you enormous satisfaction – from knowing you have helped young people who would otherwise have to give up their dreams of a self-determined future in the arts.

Your knowledge about contemporary Australian performing arts will expand as you learn more about the contribution ACPA makes to our national culture, arts exports, and the economic benefits of preparing young performers for continuous employment.

We are a very community-spirited organisation that values loyalty and commitment. As a member of our support crew, you’ll be invited to special occasions such as graduations and showcases to see how your efforts are making a difference.

Duties and responsibilities

• Evaluating grant opportunities for relevance and linkages to ACPA’s vision and mission
• Writing persuasive responses to the grant requirements that maximise ACPA’s chances of being regarded as eligible for the grant and that reflect ACPA’s commitment to professionalism
• Ensuring ACPA applications meet all requirements for each grant, including deadlines, preparing supplementary material, and providing details in the appropriate format (might be spreadsheets, Gantt charts, pdf, online forms)

Key competencies

• Grant writing experience and success
• Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
• Collaborative writing coordination (managing drafts, track changes, version control, etc.)
• Enthusiastic interpersonal communication
• Appropriate management of confidential information

Desirable competencies

• Knowledge of the performing arts sector
• Familiarity with Indigenous cultures
