Time required : The ADEA National Office is based in Canberra, however our current board of directors are based in different States/Territories throughout Australia. Face to face board meetings are conducted quarterly (generally in alternating States) with additional teleconferences held as required. The requirement for the independent director is that the candidate be qualified in finance/accounting. The candidate should also be interested in assuming the position of Treasurer of the board, and sit on the board’s Finance, Audit and Risk Management (FARM) committee which will involve additional quarterly phone calls. Appointment term is for 3 years, with the option of extending for one further term.

About the role

The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) is seeking to appoint an independent director with financial experience to its board.

The ADEA is a not for profit organisation working with health professionals, government and the public to reduce the prevalence and impact of diabetes both in Australia.

The ADEA believes in the rights of people with or at risk of diabetes, their carers and their families to obtain timely access to quality diabetes education and care that meet their individual needs and circumstances throughout the continuum of life and the continuum of diabetes.

The ADEA is committed to supporting its members’ efforts to provide evidence–based best practice diabetes education and care to people with or at risk of diabetes, their carers and families. The board is responsible for the overall strategic direction and works with management in setting strategies and maintaining oversight of the organisation.
