About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for 3 independent directors to join the initial board of The Keeping Place, which is being formed as an Indigenous owned and controlled start-up company.
The company will own the exclusive licensing rights to The Keeping Place software – a powerful, innovative and safe tool for collecting, protecting and appropriately sharing cultural knowledge. The software enables Traditional Owners to regain data sovereignty, apply cultural protocols, manage native title, improve governance and unlock social and economic opportunities for current and future generations.
The software was recently developed through a $1.85 million pilot project involving two native title groups from the Pilbara region of Western Australia (Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation and Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation) and three resource companies (BHP, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals Group), with support from the Indigenous Land & Sea Corporation (ILSC) and the National Trust of Western Australia.
The Keeping Place has the potential to achieve significant, long lasting benefits for Indigenous communities all over Australia. To enable the commercial roll-out of The Keeping Place platform across Australia, a new Indigenous owned and controlled company is being formed.
About the company
The Keeping Place is being formed as a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee with charitable status. To ensure the company always maintains majority Indigenous ownership and control, Indigenous groups that purchase and use the software will become members of the company.

About the initial board
