About the role

Justice Connect is a dynamic Australian charity that works in the face of huge unmet legal needs to design and deliver high-impact interventions that increase access to legal support and achieve social justice. We believe in a fair and just world, where people and communities are supported to engage with and fully participate in our legal and social system and to avoid the negative impacts on their wellbeing or organisational health.

To achieve our purpose we collaborate with the right people and organisations — pro bono law firms, healthcare services, homelessness groups and more — to get the right help to the right people at the right time. We embrace technology, innovation, and new ways of working.

In 2020, Australian communities have dealt with bushfire crises and now grapple with unprecedented consequences flowing from COVID-19. We know that these events are causing and will continue to drive increases in legal need while our legal system and legal services ecosystem is already overwhelmed. In response to the huge challenges faced by our community, our strategy commits us to scaling our services with a focus on digital initiatives, amplifying our work through strategic engagement and being an effective and financially sustainable organisation.

The Justice Connect Board is looking to appoint voluntary, non-executive Directors to complement the skills and experience of the current five Board members.

We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who have a passion for social justice, support our purposes, and have specific skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital product development and digital infrastructure expertise, in particular in small-medium organisational contexts
  • Human centred design, service and strategic design experience
  • Branding, marketing and communications
  • Human resources
  • Fundraising & philanthropy
  • Experience in service delivery working with people experiencing disadvantage
  • Finance, audit and risk management

Candidates from a variety of cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, including people identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, are encouraged to apply.

Justice Connect is a company limited by guarantee, a registered charity, and is endorsed as a public benevolent institution with DGR status, with offices in Victoria and New South Wales.

The application process is as follows:

  • Applications should be addressed to Chris Povey (Chief Executive Officer), and should comprise a cover letter, your resume, and a succinct statement outlining your suitability for the role with reference to the above.
  • Applications should be emailed to nina.larson@justiceconnect.org.au as a single word or PDF file including “Justice Connect Board Position Vacancy Application via Pro Bono Australia” in the email subject line.
  • Applications close at 5:00pm, Monday 09 November 2020.
