About the role

Are you an accounting professional looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!?

Accounting for International Development offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profit organisations globally. Volunteer Accounting Assignments of between 2 weeks and 6 months form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of charities in over 50 countries.

Our partner is an NGO working to prepare young people in Kenya for future employment. Their programmes work with children who are finishing primary school and transitioning to secondary school, following their progress and providing advice and assistance throughout higher education.

They are in the process of registering in the US – they have successfully incorporated and opened a bank account, but are still awaiting 501c3 recognition. In the meantime, they’ve opened a bank account in the US which is linked to their Quickbooks account and have also set up Transferwise but have not started using it.
The main focus of the assignment will be around QuickBooks training and improving functionality, as well as providing training to the finance staff. You will look at how their US accounts can be incorporated into their Kenyan accounts on QuickBooks, train on how to record different accounts for each branch in QuickBooks, and help them maximise their use of the programme as they believe they are only scratching its surface. If time allows, they would also benefit from support to develop a procurement policy and create a simple financial policies handbook for all staff members to follow.

Accommodation provided.
