About the role

We are a registered not-for-profit Australian organisation that coordinates international student exchange programs (both in Australian & overseas). Students who come from overseas and are placed with a volunteer host family and attend a local Australian high school (the local highschool volunteers their placement for the exchange student).

We are seeking a volunteer Local Coordinator to support one of our Italian exchange students arriving in early February 2018. The student will be based in Leeton, NSW.

Local Coordinators are volunteers providing additional local contact and support to the exchange student and their host family. Exchange students appreciate having another local adult who supports and cares about their progress and coordinator’s enjoy the opportunity to build a bond and friendship with the exchange student. The role of a local coordinator is truly rewarding when this bond is established. The coordinator’s key role is to:

• support the student and their host family during the duration of their exchange program

• complete and lodge monthly reports

• assist with any minor problem solving (supported by W.E.P staff)

The time commitment per month varies but it is a minimum of 1 hour a month and you can self manage this time to fit in with your own lifestyle commitments. Coordinators are required to be 25 years or older (no upper age limit), great listeners with good communication skills. An interest in other cultures and young people would be helpful (but not essential). Online Training, interview and report documents, handbooks and various other materials are all provided and W.E.P office staff is available for advice and support to the coordinator 24/7.
