About the organisation

Organisation name : Mary's Houser Services Limited

Mary’s House Services (MHS) exists to respond to the desperate need for women and children to escape domestic and family violence (DFV). Research has shown that DFV is the most common reason given for homelessness and that access to housing that is secure, affordable and immediately available is the most critical factor in families escaping DFV. More than 121,000 people experiencing DFV in Australia sought help from specialist homelessness services in 2017-18. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to DFV.

MHS sets itself apart from other domestic violence services in NSW in that it provides support to women and children in different stages of their journey to safety and independence. Other services almost exclusively work with women who have already left.

MHS works with women who remain in a DFV relationship or feel unable to leave through The Daisy Centre (TDC), focusing on maximising safety and housing support as well as other specific tailored information and therapeutic services. Accommodation is provided at the refuge to women and children who are in urgent need of safe accommodation.

We provide case management for up to five families at any one time for up to three months (dependent on need) at the refuge and to around 40 women in TDC, assisting them to access financial support, therapeutic, legal and medical services, affordable housing and community supports.

To establish the final link to a family’s pathway to long-term safety, MHS has access to its own transitional home for families together with ongoing outreach support.
