About the role
Want to support better mental health in our community by volunteering?
Rough Patch is an affordable counselling and mental health care service in Sydney’s Inner West that provides counselling, referrals, and other supports. We’re a non-profit social enterprise, using a new, innovative model of practice that has never been done in Australia and our mission is to make it easier and more affordable for everyone to access mental health supports and resources. We provide counselling sessions on a sliding scale and also have a mental health bookshop that helps offset our costs, as well as creates a non-clinical entry point for clients and customers.
Rough Patch strives to be inclusive, non-pathologising, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, queer-friendly, and anti-misogynist, and we actively seek to further our education about these issues on an ongoing basis.
About the role
We run on the power of volunteers and we’re seeking compassionate, warm people with an interest in mental healthcare to support our work. Volunteers at Rough Patch do a variety of jobs, including working in the mental health bookshop, welcoming our clients and walk-in customers, supporting our counsellors, doing admin tasks, updating our website and webstore, keeping the office tidy and organised, and ensuring the smooth running of our day-to-day work. At the moment, we are seeking volunteers to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
This opportunity suits someone who has experience (or wants to learn more) in mental healthcare, medical healthcare, administration or retail. It would especially suit someone who is training to become a counsellor, social worker, psychologist or other mental healthcare professional. We’ll provide on-the-job training but you will need to feel confident learning/using online tools such as Slack, Trello, Wix, Google Documents, Survey Monkey, etc, and have intermediate computer skills including use of Windows and Mac programs for word processing, using the internet, etc.
We thank our volunteers by offering discounts in our mental health bookshop, including you in any workshops, professional development or networking opportunities, providing a proof of volunteering letter for your CV, and any other value-adding we can do!
