Full time 12 month contract. Sydney-based.

Who is GetUp?

GetUp is one of Australia’s largest campaigning communities, with over 1 million members. GetUp creates a thriving democracy by giving everyday Australians the chance to make extraordinary impact – online, across the airwaves, and in the streets. GetUp members want to create a country of active citizens, not passive consumers.

This role is for you if you:

  • Are passionate about creating progressive change in Australia
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and care deeply about supporting others to step up into leadership
  • Are ambitious and excited about scale – knowing that we need to do more, faster and bigger than ever before
  • Can work quickly both independently and in a team
  • Can be across multiple tasks at once and never drop the ball
  • Are nimble with a can-do attitude and come up with creative solutions to tricky situations
  • Are excited about technological innovations and finding new ways to increase impact
  • Have experience in grassroots social change

Bonus points if you have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of organising theory and an appetite to think outside the box
  • Experience with electoral organising
  • Experience working with organising technology to engage people at scale – eg. calling and door-knocking technology, P2P texting software, NationBuilder
  • Prior experience writing GetUp-style email communications, experience managing Facebook groups and using Slack

If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Please apply by Sunday 21 January 2018. Instead of writing a traditional cover letter, we’d love you to address the questions in the application form, keeping things short, snappy and engaging!

At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience. We encourage applicants from a diverse range of genders, cultures, language groups, abilities, and experiences to apply.

More about the GetUp Action Network:

We’re entering a new era where people power is more important than ever.  Launched in 2017, the GetUp Action Network gives GetUp members the tools, training and resources to connect with other local members, and organise into GetUp Action Groups.

GetUp has a ten-year record of winning campaigns. And local action groups have an even longer track record of making citizen’s voices matter. By combining the power of  organising with the power of mass digital campaigning, we can redefine the political landscape. As part of the GetUp organising team you would help shape the GetUp Action Network, assisting with the development of innovative systems and processes, and designing and implementing campaign strategies for the network.

You can read more about the action network here: www.action.getup.org.au

More about the Organising Team:

The GetUp organising team spans five states and the ACT, working day in and day out to build and wield the people power to radically redefine what is politically possible in Australia. Together, we develop and support a network of dozens of volunteer action groups and volunteer organisers. They organise members and voters to target political and corporate decision-makers across the country. This is a huge mission, that is rewarding, demanding, challenging and creative.

Our team is an open and collaborative crew who have clear goals, are accountable to each other and work in ways that foster creativity, honesty, learning and innovation. We are only going to win big things if we ask for big things. And it’s the only way to scale up our impact.
