About the role
Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Divine Word University (DWU) in Madang is requesting a volunteer paediatrician.
PNG suffers a critical shortage of doctors, particularly specialists. For the health care sector in general, and the health of the community, this means a lack of expert knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of child health issues.
Subsequently, the Medical School (MBBS program) at DWU is facing a challenge with recruiting a paediatrician. This lack of specialists practising in PNG affects the recruitment of specialists for higher education programs, creating a cyclical challenge in educating new doctors to address the shortages. We expect that a volunteer paediatrician will provide an evaluation of the current program and help bring DWU paediatric training programs in line with world standards.
The volunteer is expected to have the specialization in paediatrics. Preferably, the volunteer will have some teaching experience in the field. The volunteer must be adaptable and open to working in a multicultural context. The volunteer is expected to work minimum for one academic year teaching students paediatrics. The volunteer will work predominantly on the main university campus, with access to lecture rooms and a simulation laboratory, with an opportunity of doing some clinical exercises in the provincial hospital and at Alexishafen Hospital.
If you are ready to take up the challenge, apply today. Send your resume and a brief description of why you’re the perfect person for this role to palms@palms.org.au with the subject ‘Paediatrician in PNG via ProBono’.
