AfID offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profit organisations globally. Background

Based in the scenic and mountainous region of Victoria, our partner supports indigenous communities in oriental and occidental Mindoro. They promote indigenous rights, provide health & education activities, capacity building, environmental protection of indigenous regions, health, cultural development and citizenship programmes. For example, they help families to secure birth certificates and land rights, which then enables them to engage in education, government and access health services.

The organisation received support from AfID a year ago to start the implementation of a new accounts system and have requested further support to mentor, train and build the confidence of their finance team in making the most of the new system.

Your Role

You will be the second volunteer on assignment at this NGO, and will be reviewing their progress since the last placement, evaluating how the local team has been implementing the new procedures and provide further training and guidance as needed. They have also requested support around:

  • Cost monitoring
  • Drawing and presenting figures and reports efficiently from budgets to management
  • Budgeting preparation and analysis
  • Formal cashflow forecasting
  • Use of purchase orders/accruals accounting
  • Tracking donations in kind

This broad and wide-ranging assignment is a great opportunity for accountants thinking about a career move to the international development sector to get an extensive insight in just a few weeks.
