Location : Queensland (LAOS)
Time required : Full time

About the role
Are you an accounting professional looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!?
Accounting for International Development (AfID) offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world, the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profits globally. Volunteer Assignments from 2 weeks to 12 months form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of organisations in more than 50 countries.
Background about the NGO partner
Based in mountainous Southern Laos, our partner works with rural and indigenous communities to help them develop their own potential, through education and/or livelihoods, whilst conserving the environment. They are seeking an experienced accountant or auditor to support them for 3 weeks on a pro bono basis.
There has been an increased momentum in their work, and team morale has been high. They have started a new bamboo project, where local farmers are harvesting bamboo stems, using the shoots for food and the bamboo for building materials for making decorative items. They have been strengthening their accounting processes and financial controls and have recently become a sub-grantee for an organisation based in Chiang Mai with other ongoing proposals to international donors.
Your Role
You will be the fifth AfID volunteer consultant to support this organisation. They have requested the following assistance:
1) Support the finance team (coaching them on improved approaches/methods of audit preparation)
2) Prepare for the audit, and then continue for about a week following the audit in order to
2) Advise and support the capacity development of the local audit firm
3) Provide support with the execution of the audit and then
4) Support the preparation of the partner’s audit reports
