About the role

Street Child is looking for individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking an international volunteering role in Nepal.

Street Child is a charity dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the sustainable means to keep them there.

We have identified that out of school children is one of Nepal’s main development issues, particularly those in marginalised communities. Street Child is currently seeking to expand and advance a series of projects in Nepal which intend to provide children the opportunity to access education that is inclusive, sustainable and life-saving. This placement is a unique opportunity to make a critical contribution to an organisation that is setting up and scaling its efforts within various communities in rural and urban Nepal.

Street Child offers placements for 4 to 12 weeks, supporting work in our country office in Kathmandu as well as in the field where we collaborate with local partner organisations. Working alongside the Street Child of Nepal team, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to –

Overseeing the research and implementation of projects; including travel to the field sites where necessary

Coordinating primary and secondary research at field sites using bespoke methodologies and methods, including appropriate tools for research with children, their communities and other relevant stakeholders

Monitoring and evaluating the progress of projects to ensure they are on target to reach the outlined timeframes and intended impact

Liaising and working in collaboration with local partners and stakeholders

Identifying potential local and international funders and writing in depth funding proposals to these organisations as required

Creating research papers based on data collected from the field which provide recommendations for Street Child and relevant stakeholders; these papers will form the basis for future research and initiatives

Conducting literature reviews on assigned issues and proposing frameworks for how the issues can be addressed within the Street Child framework

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about the development sector through an immersive experience, and to make a lasting contribution to the organisation and its aim to empower children through education in West Africa and Nepal.

Successful applicants must be prepared to live and work in very basic conditions. Once in country there is a fixed daily cost covering accommodation and any work related travel. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.
A fundraising commitment for the charity is required. Successful applicants will be assigned a fundraising mentor who is on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have as well as providing ideas, advice and support to help you reach your target.
