SOUTH AFRICA | Finance Manager @ Youth Employment Org | 2-3Months

Our partner is a social enterprise, designed as a business-led initiative that aims to empower one million unemployed youth by offering them a first chance at quality work experience and skills development. They are urgently in need of a Pro Bono Financial Manager to support them for 2 – 3 months in South Africa.

Background
Youth unemployment is one of the biggest existential threats to South Africa’s future. Latest figures suggest that 58% of unemployed people are between 18 and 34. There is no easy solution to tackling this but a positive step forward is the strong collaboration between government, the private sector and wider civil society.

The organisation is designed as a business-led initiative supported by Government that aims to empower one million unemployed youth by offering them a first chance at quality work experience and skills development and in doing so giving them the dignity and confidence many youth so badly need. The programme is focused on black South Africans between the ages of 18-35. The platform is a truly unique collaboration. Our partner aims to support South African youth to achieve their first step up into work. From job readiness training to ongoing monitoring and evaluation, they are fully committed to creating the opportunity for work, and with it longer term skills development and security.

Your role:

You will be a second volunteer supporting this partner, covering the role of a Finance Manager and will build on the work the first AfID volunteer had commenced in relation to the development of:

• Finance systems
• Finance polices & procedures
• Governance guidelines
• Funding models
• Funding proposals
• Budgets
• Risk register
• Project work as required
• Audit preparation
• Financial software implementation
