About the role

The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market Inc (ASFM) is seeking nominations from a person with experience and knowledge of financial matters for a specialist member position as Treasurer for the ASFM Committee. The Committee fulfils the role of a board and is responsible for ensuring that the ASFM meets its strategic goals and constitutional objectives supporting the production and sale of South Australian food direct to consumers.

The ASFM Committee consists of 10 people who volunteer their time and is comprised of six elected members, three specialist representatives and one representative of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of SA. This group meets at least 10 times a year with meetings currently held on the third Wednesday of the month starting at 5pm at the Adelaide Showground.

The ASFM employ a team of paid staff to undertake the operational management of two weekly farmers’ markets held at Gawler and Adelaide Showground. The staff team includes a General Manager, Market Manager, Administration Officer and a Financial Manager. MYOB is currently utilised to manage the accounts of the organisation.

The position is a volunteer role for a period of two years. The role of Treasurer includes oversight of the ASFM finances and providing advice to the ASFM committee on its investment strategy for its reserves, which currently includes investing in managed shares as well as holding funds in term deposits at the bank.
