About the role

Are you an accounting professional looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!?

Accounting for International Development (AfID) offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world, the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profits globally. Volunteer Assignments from 2 weeks to 12 months form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of organisations in more than 50 countries.

Background

Based on the stunning coast of Belize, our partner provides education support to blind and visually impaired children in mainstream schools by teaching braille and producing braille texts.  The organisation offers free eye examinations, prescriptions and affordable glasses throughout the country in their primary eye clinics.

Over the years, the NGO has built up its capacity as a self-sustainable organisation through modest fees for services, fundraising and volunteer contributions.  In recent years international grants have been less available and have mostly been targeted for additional and replacement equipment.  Whilst they have been transparent and accountable, they have requested professional guidance in improving their procedures and systems as they plan for the future.

Your Role

They have requested support to implement new software for all their departments, creating the Chart of Accounts and implementing the new system and training the local team to utilise it.  They have also asked for help creating processes and procedures to aid income analysis and budget planning decisions.

This broad and wide-ranging assignment is a great opportunity for accountants thinking about a career move to the international development sector to get an extensive insight in just a few weeks.
