About the Role

The Channel is a diverse giving circle dedicated to funding, educating and growing LGBTQI philanthropy. Our members make regular donations, and when the ‘pot of gold’ reaches a certain level, a vote is taken on which not-for-profit or community LGBTQI cause should receive funding. Our vision is to be the largest funder of rainbow opportunities in Australia, and we have a mission to change the way Australians experience gender and sexuality for the better. The Channel works to raise awareness of issues impacting the LGBTQI community, and encourage generosity, learning and engagement around these issues, while providing opportunities for tangible impact and change through collective philanthropy. The Channel is searching for an enthusiastic Volunteer Communications Coordinator to assist with maintaining the smooth running of our organisation.

JOB TYPE: Casual (volunteer), 5 hours per week.

LOCATION: Anywhere within Australia (Melbourne or Sydney preferred)

SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Executive Director

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Executive Director and Marketing Manager in forming and maintaining a communications strategy and calendar
  • Generate content (copy and graphics) for social media, electrionic mail, website, events and collateral
  • Set up and maintain hootsuite account (or similar)
  • Maintain mailing lists
  • Oversee Instagram, twitter, linkedin, and facebook accounts
  • Assist Executive Director and Marketing Manager in setting up and maintaining paid facebook, twitter and Google Ads campaigns
  • Work across mailchimp, photoshop / indesign (or Canva or similar), Eventbrite, Survey Monkey
  • Oversee and report on analytics

OTHER REQUIREMENTS / PREFERENCES:

Qualifications: A formal qualification in one or more of the following areas is preferred

  • Marketing and communications
  • Graphic design
  • Digital strategy

Experience:

  • Some experience working in a professional setting
  • Some experience working with LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Some experience performing comparable tasks (paid or unpaid)

Skills:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Basic or above graphic design skills (indesign / photoshop or similar)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Squarespace website design and editing (no coding required)
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics / AB Testing etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Qualities:

  • Organised and able to meet deadlines
  • Self-driven and able to take intiative/ work independently
  • Interest in learning and growing in the role
  • Passion for human rights and social justice issues (especially in the LGBTQIA+ space)
  • Candidates who identify as LGBTQIA+ are preferred

  • Effective use of communications strategy and calendar
  • High performance of paid online advertising
  • Growth of online presence and following
  • Professionalisation of visual content distributed
  • Effective use of analytics to guide future planning and ideas
