About the role

NSW Council for Intellectual Disability is seeking a proactive, self-sufficient, journalism/PR student who wants to make a difference to the lives of people living with disability, while adding real world media coordination experience to their CV.

This volunteer role will focus on promoting a series of workshops in local media around NSW, with responsibilities including:

• Identifying media targets

• Identifying stories

• Interviewing

• Writing/updating and distributing press releases and images

• Phone pitching

• Placing advertisements

There may also be opportunities to contribute to mainstream media advocacy campaigns.

These are all core skills that will be invaluable to PR job seekers, and infinitely transferable for journalism job seekers.

The successful applicant will benefit from the knowledge and know-how of a communications team with decades of experience in the field.

One to two days a week, with work hours flexible to accommodate study schedule.
