Almost half a million Australians suffer from chronic wounds and wound care costs the health system $2.5b per year. Wounds Australia is the peak body for wound management in Australia. We work to improve wound care and management through advocacy, public awareness campaigns, education and research.

Wounds Australia formed in 2015 with the merger of all state and territory Wound Management Associations, and employed its inaugural CEO in 2016. We have nearly 3,000 members including nurses, podiatrists, pharmacists, medical professionals as well as scientists, and organisations providing wound products or services. We are a company limited by guarantee and a health promotion charity.

Wounds Australia is seeking to appoint independent Board Directors to help guide our organization through an exciting period of expansion. We are looking for dynamic, experienced and influential Board Directors whose values align with Wounds Australia’s mission to advance wound management. In particular, the Board is seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • marketing and fundraising,
  • legal experience,
  • finance or accounting, and
  • information technology & digital strategy.

About the role

These are non-remunerated voluntary positions, requiring demonstrated track record in the following areas:

Knowledge of a Director’s responsibilities – understanding the role of a Board Director and its legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities. AICD qualifications are highly desirable.

Governance and strategic performance – ensuring effective Board governance and strategic performance processes are in place contributing to a high performing Board.

Finance, audit and risk – comprehending the company’s accounts and financial material presented to the Board, financial reporting requirements and some understanding of corporate finance and risk management.

Strategic expertise – reviewing the strategy through constructive questioning and suggestion, contributing to the effective decision making of the Board .

Managing people and achieving change – experience in current management thinking on branding, engagement, strategic vision and stakeholder communication.

Wounds Australia will provide support, induction and training for new Board members. Wounds Australia will arrange and meet the cost of necessary accommodation and travel meet the cost of meals and incidental expenditure, such as taxi fares for Board member to attend meetings and other Wounds Australia business.

Board Directors are required to attend 4 face to face board meetings, usually held on a Saturday, and 4-6 teleconference meetings held after hours. In addition, Board Directors are expected to participate in sub-committees, and other Wounds Australia activities.
