About the role
We’re seeking applications from young people aged 18-25 years, who have lived experience of housing instability and an interest in helping other young people and the community.
The definition of homelessness includes primary homelessness (sleeping on the street, in a tent or an improvised dwelling, secondary homelessness (where individuals move from one temporary shelter to another, such as emergency accommodation, youth refuges or couch surfing) and tertiary homelessness (where individuals live in accommodation that falls below minimum community standards, such as in extremely overcrowded housing or boarding houses.) The majority, 69% of young people, suffer from ‘tertiary homelessness’.
The Yfoundations Youth Homelessness Representative Council (YHRC) plays an important role in addressing issues that affect young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
The group meets five times a year and is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people who have faced similar challenges, learn new skills, and make your voice heard.
Your opinions and the discussions you will have as part of the YHRC will directly feed into the sector and help to advocate for policy change.
All YHRC members are remunerated for their time, and travel costs are covered for COVID-safe in-person meetings.

About the organisation
For over 40 years, Yfoundations has served as the NSW peak body representing children and young people at risk of and experiencing homelessness, as well as the services that provide direct support to them.
We aim to create a future without youth homelessness by providing a voice for children and young people experiencing and at risk of homelessness. We work collaboratively with service providers, NGOs, government departments and community members to provide research, sector development and policy advice, health projects and services for children and young people.
