Queensland NFP Named in Great 50 Places to Work

Leading Queensland disability organisation, Horizon Foundation Inc. has been named as one of Business Review Weekly’s ‘Great 50 Places to Work’.
Horizon Foundation is the only Not for Profit organisation to make the list, coming in at number 48 on the list which saw IT company NetApp Australia named the best place in to work in Australia.
Horizon Foundation Inc. is a Not for Profit disability support organisation, which was started in Queensland in 1981. The Horizon Foundation today employs over 130 staff and assists more than 1300 people through a range of services and programs each year in the Brisbane – Gold Coast corridor.
CEO of Horizon Foundation, Joe Gamblin, says that being a Not for Profit organisations means they run very lean and certainly don’t have the resources to offer monetary rewards or profit sharing to their staff.
Gamblin says staff satisfaction is linked to feeling valued and providing value.
Christine Steele, who works in HR and Client Services, says that all Horizon foundation employees have access to the CEO and the opportunity to have a say. She says staffs are given independence and that’s a very empowering and motivating inducement.
Gamblin says the organisation has worked hard at getting the organisational culture right, investing in training, taking on board feedback and encouraging people to speak out about any challenges so that we can address issues before they become problems.
And for the second year in a row, Advanced Solutions International (ASI), a global software provider for NFPs, has made the list, coming in at number 49.
ASI has been working exclusively with associations and charitable organisations over the past 20 years.
Paul Ramsbottom, Managing Director of ASI South Pacific, says the accolade confirms ASI’s continued commitment to ensuring an open and positive workplace environment.
The list is a collaborative effort between the Great Place to Work Institute Australia and Business Review Weekly.
Companies are ranked according to their employees’ responses to an employee survey, a culture audit, and a two part management questionnaire, all developed by the Great Place to Work Institute.
