We’ve seen how often that matters.

ApexHunt compared 212 senior Australian job ads with the CVs of 78 job seekers and found 1,053 requirements from the ads that weren’t clearly shown in the CVs.

About a quarter came down to wording or missing detail.

We also looked at 36 cases where people tailored their CV for a particular job. The median match score improved by 7 points. For CVs starting below 50 out of 100, the median improvement was 22 points.

Most experienced people have done more than their CV can show.

That’s why tailoring shouldn’t mean rewriting everything every time you find a job you want. It should mean working out what this employer needs to see and making sure it’s there.

For one role, that might be leading people. For another, it might be managing budgets, working with government, delivering projects, building partnerships or using a particular system.
