About the role

The Organisation

Parnngurr Aboriginal Corporation administers Parnngurr Community on behalf of its members. In addition to delivering municipal services and administrative functions, the Corporation works to develop the capacity of the community and to provide improved community infrastructure and services.

 

The Role

Parnngurr Aboriginal Corporation is seeking to employ a Community Coordinator/CEO with community development experience to oversee the management of community municipal services and administrative functions, and to provide professional input to the development of the community’s capacity for governance and participation in managing its own affairs. The role will report to the Corporation’s Board of Directors and will perform the functions of CEO of the Corporation, in addition to working collaboratively with a wide range of service providers on behalf of the members of the community.
An attractive salary package, including district allowance, superannuation, relocation allowance, generous leave provisions and salary packaging will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Comfortable, air conditioned housing is available in the community at a low rental.

 

The Person

This is an active, hands-on role requiring energy and the ability to work in a challenging but rewarding cross-cultural environment. The position would suit a couple, as the Community Store Manager position could be available for the partner of the successful applicant.
It is expected that the successful applicant will have:
• Relevant experience and/or qualifications in community development, management and administration;
• A strong commitment to working in partnership with Aboriginal people, and in assisting them to manage their own affairs;
• Experience working in remote communities and/or cross-cultural environments;
• A high level of oral and written communication skills;
• The ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
The Location

Parnngurr (http://parnngurr.com/) is situated in the south east corner of the spectacular Karlamilyi (formerly Rudall River) National Park, 370 km east of Newman in central WA and is home to approximately 120 Martu people and community service providers (http://www.parnngurrschool.com.au/Default.aspx, http://www.kj.org.au/ ). The Martu are among the most traditional of Australia’s Aboriginal people, with many of the older residents in Parnngurr being able to relate their stories of their first contact with western society. The community provides supplies and services to the growing number of tourists who are attracted to Karlamilyi National Park and the nearby Canning Stock Route.
