A message from Strategic Grants:

Strategic Grants is thrilled to be sponsoring Pro Bono Australia to bring not for profits this Grants Page resource, to further build capacity to find and apply for relevant grants.

Each month we will bring you a dozen new opportunities to apply for funding, across all regions of Australia. If a grant is of interest, simply click on the link to go into the full grant record detail in the GEM Portal Demo.

Essentials for being “funder ready”

What do funders expect when considering your organisation’s application?

- Clear evidence of your competencies and capabilities to deliver the project.
- Ability to start the project as soon as funding is received, and to complete it on time.
- Mitigation strategies in case anything goes awry mid project
- A well thought out budget that makes sense according to what you say you are delivering.
- Clearly defined aims, objectives, strategies and timeframes.
- Evidence of how you will capture, analyse and report the outputs, outcomes and potential impact data.

Grant Tips

Tip 1    Don’t replicate!

Do your research before project planning to ensure that your project fulfils a need. Back up the need with data and references.

Tip 2    Funders want to know the
    benefits of their funding.

Build your monitoring and evaluation plan into your program design to ensure you are collecting the right data so you know your project has worked and you can demonstrate that back in your reporting.

Tip 3    Read the guidelines!

Might seem like the obvious is being stated but funders report as many as 20% ineligible applications are still received!

Tip 4    Answer the questions.

Provide just the information being asked for in the response to each question. Be sure that it is clear, concise, and leaves no unanswered questions in the funders' minds.

Tip 5    Say thank you!

An alarming number of funders report they have to chase receipts, and some don’t receive thank yous! A thank you call or email takes only 5 minutes. Make sure that thank you comes from the right person in your organisation, according to the size and nature of the funding partnership.
