This position is funded by the Australian Government under the Promoting Better Mental Health – Youth Mental Health Initiative. Aftercare is the signatory organisation and fund holder for this program and as such is the employing organisation. Aftercare is a not-for-profit organisation that supports people with mental illness and disability. Established in 1907 by Emily Paterson, Aftercare is the longest serving, non-government organisation in Australia offering support and accommodation for people. Today, Aftercare is a leader in social and emotional wellbeing by providing high quality services and by being an employer of choice for those seeking a career in health and related services. Aftercare operate four headspace Services including headspace Meadowbrook, headspace Nundah, headspace Woolloongabba and headspace Ipswich. These Centres are part of a national network of eighty headspace Centres across Australia, delivering services to young people aged 12-25 years old. headspace is designed to ensure that holistic care is provided to youth presenting at headspace Meadowbrook in the areas of general health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs and vocational services.

About the role

Aftercare has opportunities for Private Practitioners to join the following headspace services: headspace Woolloongabba, Meadowbrook and Ipswich.

We are seeking passionate and experienced:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • General Psychologists
  • Mental Health Social Workers
  • Mental Health Occupational Therapists

As a Private Practitioner your income will be derived directly from Medicare Billings so you will need to be eligible to provide services under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS – Better Access).

Main responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Providing high standard assessments and psychological, counselling and therapeutic interventions with young people aged 12-25
  • Ability to service between 4- 6 clients per day
  • Available for a minimum of 2 days
  • Opportunity to run group programs
  • Liaising and working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Mental Health Care Plan Reviews (5th session) of clients provided to referring GP

The suitable candidates must be able to register for a Medicare Provider Number.
