About the organisation
Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is the worlds’ leading melanoma research and treatment centre. The Institute is a national network of researchers and clinicians headquartered at the state of the art Poche Centre in north Sydney that works with affiliated groups out of a range of hospitals and universities. The Institute’s efforts are channelled into three streams of activity: treatment, research and education. Internationally, the MIA leads the way with its body of unique clinical trials, which have cured people with advanced melanoma. The MIA employs the world’s best melanoma oncologist, surgeon and pathologist.

The Challenge
Australia has the second highest incidence of melanoma in the world. On average, 30 Australians will be diagnosed every day and one Australian dies from melanoma every six hours. It is the most common cause of cancer death in 20-39 year olds. Its incidence is also very high in the over 60s. Yet it is largely preventable and treatable if detected early.
The Role
This is a specialist position responsible for generating income from the private sector supporting the activities of the Institute. The role reports to and works closely with the head of fundraising and a small fundraising team. Specific responsibilities include:
- Working with clinical directors to identify projects requiring new funding
- Developing and fostering relationships with national corporates with shared values
- Constructing a pipeline ensuring meaningful partnerships for the future
- Researching and creating new partnership opportunities
- Contributing over $1 million per annum to the cause.

Skills Required
Ideally, you are an experienced business developer in the not-for-profit or for-profit sectors with a track record in sponsorship, fundraising or commercial sales and partnerships hopefully in the pharmaceutical or health industry.
You feel confident with your ability to develop positive relationships, which lead to sponsorships and lasting partnerships. You have a sophisticated approach to building corporate relationships and are comfortable talking to clinicians about technical and scientific topics. You are looking for a role that requires considerable time client facing and prospecting.
