About the organisation
The Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) is the national peak association representing professional fundraising in Australia a sector valued at $12.5b. FIA comprises 1200 sector specific member and organisations from a broad range of not-for-profits including much loved household name charities, universities, medical research institutes to cause driven organisations all with one thing in common - the need to fundraise from the community, philanthropy and the corporate sector.
As the voice of fundraising the FIA supports members in achieving best practice by advocating ethical practice and enabling members to achieve excellence through professional development and credentialing, and enhances the reputation of fundraising by leading debate on public policy issues and engaging with sector leaders. FIA has developed a new Code as the professional fundraiser’s and organisation’s guide to ethical, accountable and transparent fundraising. The Code is vital to how fundraising is viewed by donors, government and the community.

The Role
The FIA has experienced substantial organisational change over the last six years resulting in a major shift in its effectiveness as a national peak. In this role you will be responsible for delivering FIA’s vision and outcomes within the 2018 – 2020 strategic plan. Beyond the core activities of the institute the current strategic plan is designed to further position the FIA as being a public policy advocate, self-regulator and professional training provider supported by a stable, growing and highly satisfied membership with the annual conference continuing to be the sector highlight.
The role will also focus on positioning industry self-regulation as a preference to further statutory regulation of the sector as well as member take-up and compliance with the Code and use of the FIA logo as the quality standard to enhance public trust and confidence in charitable fundraising.
Skills Required
The successful candidate will have senior management experience with a proven track record in organisational development ideally from within a membership driven organisation such as an industry association, fundraising body, technical institution or a larger not-for-profit.
Having worked at a senior level, building relationships with multiple stakeholders, industry, government, regulators and the media will be second nature to you as will be your staff and volunteer management skills. A track record in the strategic development and implementation of membership models and codes of conduct as well as having a sound appreciation and understanding of the importance of brand in the organisations you lead.
