About the organisation
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common acquired neurological disease with more than 2.3 million people affected globally. Australia has a comparatively high incidence of MS and three out of four people affected are women. The average age of diagnosis is between the ages of 20 to 40.
The symptoms of MS are extremely variable for all individuals and can also change over time. The most common symptoms to occur are unusual fatigue, visual disturbance, difficulty walking, pain and altered sensations.
MS Research Australia is the largest national organisation dedicated to funding, co-ordinating, educating and advocating for multiple sclerosis research as part of the worldwide effort. The organisation’s goal is to accelerate research: into the cause, better treatments and prevention, with the aim of ultimately finding a cure.
With a small team of dedicated individuals overheads are low ensuring more of the fundraised dollar is directed straight to the best MS research.
About the role

The Role
In this hands-on role you will advance MS Research Australia’s philanthropic, financial and reputational capital among its stakeholders and constituents, nationally and internationally. Working with the CEO, board, leadership council and allied MS organisations you will develop strategies to build relationships that will drive giving in support of the organisation’s goals and projects as well as promoting organisational achievements and raising profile.
With a focus on local, national and international projects you will provide leadership of a range of large to smaller scale initiatives including;
- Nurturing individuals, corporate and private foundation donors including PAF’S and bequests
- Partnering with government, business, pharmaceutical, political and community leaders
- The continued expansion of the digital fundraising platform Kiss Goodbye to MS
- Existing database driven donor programs such as regular and payroll giving
Skills Required
You are currently in a senior role with considerable experience in development, advancement, corporate partnering and sponsorship, fundraising, sales or equivalent. Importantly you are able to demonstrate success in establishing, cultivating and maintaining high level strong relationships with key executives and influential donors.
Overall you build support for organisations through the implementation and management of income generating strategies via your ability to think strategically and tactically about the relationship between supporters and funders and funding goals. You also have a growing passion for the utilisation of the latest appropriate technologies driving fundraising.
