About this opportunity

We have a rewarding and exciting opportunity to coordinate the VolunteeHelpline and Brainwaves programs from our head office in Fairfield, Melbourne.

Wellways Helpline is a volunteer program that operates from 09:00am – 09:00pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. This service receives incoming calls from members of the public enquiring about mental health related issues and calls from service providers seeking information on the various programs that Wellways delivers and also makes outreach calls.

Brainwaves is a radio program that goes to air every Wednesday from 3CR in Melbourne and focuses on mental health related issues

The role of the Volunteer Coordinator Fairfield is to oversee all aspects of the day to day operation of the Helpline and Brainwaves volunteer programs which includes recruitment, supervision and support of the Helpline and Brainwaves volunteers, rostering, call flow management, and accurate reporting. The role is 0.4 FTE: Tuesday and Wednesday 9 am to 5 pm.

 

About you

As the ideal candidate you will possess the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Science or a related discipline or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills
  • An understanding and experience of mental health issues, rehabilitation practices and the impact of psychiatric disability on service users, their families, carers and communities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • An understanding of the social model of health and the connection to community development organisations
  • Current Driver’s Licence and Satisfactory Police Records Check and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement (or willing to obtain)
