Disability Support Worker, part time and casual, in the Western suburbs supporting adults with intellectual disability.
About our Support Worker Opportunities
The Independent Living Team support people who live independently in their own homes. The support mostly involves community engagement activities and often requires short shifts with a number of participants each day.
A drivers licence and a reliable car is essential for this position. Previous experience of supporting adults with intellectual disability to live independently in the community is also a must.
The primary role of a Support Worker is to
- To provide assistance to people who live in their own homes in the community
- To enable individuals to be safe, well cared for and supported to make continuous improvements in their quality of life.
Supporting our Participants requires
- Supporting people on an individual basis, sometimes on short shifts
- Sometimes supporting two or three people across one day which will require travel between participants homes
- Assisting individuals with identifying and achieving their personal goals
- Supporting, encouraging and assisting individuals in developing their home
- Personal care service involving: toileting; showering and/or bathing; dressing; grooming; other personal hygiene tasks.
- Teaching and modelling appropriate social skills.
- Housekeeping
- Recreation and leisure
- Manage finances
- Assist with personal relationships and social networks
- Behavior support
About You

As a Support Worker you will take a lead role in providing a support service to adults with an intellectual disability living in the community in their own homes. The needs of the people we care for vary, so you’ll need to remain flexible, adaptable and positive in everything you do.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience of working with adults with intellectual disabilities and complex physical disabilities
- An in-depth understanding of person centered thinking and be able to demonstrate how you put that into practice in your work
- Ability to understand the vulnerabilities and needs of adults with an intellectual disability and the issues faced by their families
- Commitment to the welfare, rights and personal development of people with disabilities
- The capacity to be able to look for and carry out creative and practical approaches to problems by seeking and fostering a range of responses to people’s needs
- To understand and maintain confidentiality and privacy
You will need access to a vehicle that you can use for work purposes, and be available for shifts across a roster. This includes being available;
- Weekends
- Evenings
- Weekdays
This position will not suit you if you are not available to work shifts across these times as rostered.
