We’re looking for a Public Relations Manager who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference.

The role:  

The Public Relations Manager is responsible for increasing media coverage and public support for the Brotherhood’s work and concerns by communicating our services, issues we care about and policy solutions for an Australia free of poverty. This role includes media relations, writing for a variety of publications, including online and social media, and working closely with staff across the organisation to identify and develop opportunities and strategies to achieve program and corporate goals.

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for a Public Relations Manager who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, media relations, or related field with extensive work experience in public relations
  • proven experience in story development, writing, editing and proofreading with the ability to conceive story and publicity platforms to drive coverage
  • demonstrated experience in engaging the public in campaigns
  • proven ability to successfully pitch stories to reporters, editors and producers and achieve media coverage in mainstream media and online
  • highly creative, with an ability to conceive story and publicity platforms to drive coverage, withproven experience in successfully pitching stories to reporters, editors and producers and achieving media coverage in mainstream media and online
  • proven skills required for multimedia products such as videos and podcasts, including scriptwriting and voiceovers
  • strong grasp of different media outlets and the media landscape
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and effectively establish and maintain relationships with media contacts, journalists as well as staff across all levels and people from diverse backgrounds
  • demonstrated experience in using social media and social media strategies to achieve outcomes
  • track record of developing and managing public relations campaigns
  • well-developed organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to initiate and implement projects in tight timeframes, plan workloads, prioritise and juggle competing deadlines
  • demonstrated experience and ability to gather information from different sources including research reports, staff, people assisted by our services and external stakeholders
  • proven analytical skills with the ability to take complex ideas and research and repurpose them for media releases and other material that will appeal to the general public or particular audiences
  • ability to work independently with minimum supervision, and workunder deadline pressure with multiple concurrent priorities
  • experience engaging and working with public relations and marketing agencies to implement campaigns
  • understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.

This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week.
