Social Security Rights Victoria (SSRV) is a state-wide community legal centre specialising in social security and related law, procedures and policy.
About the role
30.4 hours per week – 12 month fixed term, based in Fitzroy, Victoria
Social Security Rights Victoria and the Financial and Consumer Rights Council have established a partnership to bring together social security law experts and financial counsellors to work together more effectively to improve client outcomes.
The Integrated Services Project is funded by the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety, with the funding administered by the Federation of Community Legal Centres. The first year of the project is nearing completion and has demonstrated very positive results. Funding has been received for a second year to build on the work and outcomes delivered in 2019. The Integrated Services Project team includes a Financial Counsellor and a Community Lawyer.
The Community Lawyer contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of this innovative integrated service. Key responsibilities include delivery of legal information, advice, casework and representation services; providing secondary consultation and casework support to other professionals; developing and championing integrated practice; participating in and developing cross sector engagement; designing and delivering professional development activities and resources; and identifying and responding to policy and systemic issues arising through client services and project implementation.
Applicants must be a qualified legal practitioner holding, or eligible to hold, a legal practising certificate. The successful applicant will have well developed legal skills, experience in delivery of direct client legal services, excellent communication and stakeholder engagements skills, a commitment to integrated practice and systemic advocacy, and the ability to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Proposals for secondments will be considered.
