About the organisation

Organisation Name : Sutton Road Training Centre (via HorizonOne Recruitment)

The Sutton Road Training Centre is a purpose built training and assessment facility situated on 63 hectares at Sutton Road near Canberra in the ACT.

The facility is operated by the Training Industry Skills Centre (TISC) who are a not for profit organisation delivering driver training for specialised and high-risk driving roles.

TISC has a unique facility and are one of very few organisations able to offer tactical armoured vehicle driver training for government and other personnel that may be deployed overseas.

About the role

The CEO will lead and be accountable for the achievement of TISC’s strategic goals, working with the Board of Directors and the leadership team. In addition to day to day management, the CEO is responsible for building the reputation and profile of TISC and providing high level advice to the Board on operations, governance and planning.

The Role:

  • this role is based in Canberra at the facility.
  • Parking is provided.

The CEO will work closely with the TISC Board and your team to deliver

  • Strategic leadership in line with vision, mission and values focused on delivering high quality, cost-effective training operations.
  • Work to identify opportunities and take the action needed to introduce new clients, partners and revenue streams to the business.
  • Leadership of change that maintains and develops a strong organisational culture, and that attracts and retains high quality staff in a workplace that is diverse and rewarding.
  • Effective management of human, financial and capital resources, with a focus on continued improvement to systems and processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations, through adherence to appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Fostering strong positive relationships with key stakeholders across government and the private sector, and with corporate partners enabling mutually beneficial collaborations and partnerships.
  • Working closely with the Board of Directors and provide assistance as appropriate to fulfil the Board’s governance responsibilities.

The Person:

This opportunity will suit a commercially minded CEO with proven ability to grow a business. You will likely have previous experience with specialist driver training through police or military links, but it is not essential.

Key skills and experience will include;

  1. Demonstrated strategic leadership at an executive level, and the ability to model resilience within a complex and changing environment.
  2. Experience with leading an RTO, or the ability to quickly gain an understanding of it.
  3. Extensive experience in corporate strategy, business development and financial management.
  4. Proven ability to deliver high quality services, operating within an effective governance framework and with a focus on quality assurance and best practice in risk and compliance management.
  5. Demonstrated ability to maintain and build a strong resilient culture within the organisation and to build collaborations and partnerships across community, government and corporate sectors.
  6. Excellent communication skills with an ability to relate well to people from all backgrounds, and to build constructive relationships, including demonstrated high-level stakeholder engagement, and the ability to represent the organisation in a range of contexts.
  7. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in Business Administration or relevant field. The successful candidate is also required to have a clean driving license (never cancelled) and ability to pass a suitable person check for the RTO registration.
