The Organisation
Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s national charity for eating disorders and body image issues, providing a voice for those affected and the people who care for them. Eating disorders are severe and complex mental illnesses with physical complications, and the medical, psychological, physical and social consequences can be long term and for many, life threatening.
Butterfly advocates for improved services from government, health and mental health organisations, and the eating disorder sector, raising awareness in the media and via community engagement. Butterfly runs Australia’s only National Helpline for eating disorders; provides evidence-based clinical treatment and support programs; and delivers prevention initiatives in schools and the community to combat body image issues.
The Role
Reporting to the Manager – Knowledge, Research and Policy, this new position will lead Butterfly’s engagement with people affected by eating disorders and body image issues. Working across teams, in this unique role you will facilitate the integration of lived experience across all areas of the organisation.
Specifically you will:
- Lead implementation of Butterfly’s Lived Experience Engagement Framework
- Establish a new strategic advisory group and provide secretariat services to the group
- Develop induction materials and deliver training to the group
- Support the CEO as Co-Chair of the group
- Develop and administer a broad-based online community reference group
- Create and maintain strong relationships within the mental health sector
Skills Required
You will have developed your career in program delivery or policy development and ideally have worked in health, mental health, eating disorders or comparable sectors.
Additionally you will have:
- Skills in design and development of programs and services
- Experience in program review and evaluation
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in facilitating training or professional development programs
- An understanding of mental health conditions, the Australian mental health sector and the current public policy landscape
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field
Occasional interstate travel is required. Compliance checking will include Police Clearance and Working with Children (WWCC).
