About the opportunity
In partnership with Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) and Victoria University Polytechnic, Uniting Vic Tas is now looking for multiple trainees to support in traineeship positions.
Commence your Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) with Victoria University Polytechnic and while Uniting find an organisation to employ you so that you can complete a paid traineeship position in Disability.
You will be employed by a partnering organisation and while you undertake your Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) and traineeship position, you will be supported by Uniting.
Once employment is sourced with the support of Uniting (minimum of three days) your mandatory Victoria University day is a paid study day. Note: Study day is paid by your employer and therefore you will only receive an income for that day once you are employed in your traineeship position.
WHAT WORK WILL I BE DOING?
As a Trainee, you will be employed with a leading Disability or Community Services organisation and provide a range of support needs to individuals with all aspects of their daily living. This can include but is not limited to:
- Assisting clients with varying levels of disability, physical, intellectual, psychological
- Assist clients with daily tasks such as showering, shaving, dressing, eating;
- Assist them to access Disability specific services and/or access to NDIS
- Support their care management plans
- Provide advocacy support
- Supporting the social needs of clients, helping them to engage with recreational and leisure activities;
- Providing in-home care:
- Transporting clients to and from appointments and social engagements;
- Assisting clients with cooking, shopping and light cleaning tasks in their own homes;
- Work with clients towards their identified goals.
HOW DOES A TRAINEESHIP WORK?
You will be a paid member of a local Organisation and will learn valuable skills on the job in your capacity as a Trainee Support Worker. You will be paid for all shifts that you work.
You will also attend classes (online) one day per week at Victoria University, where you will work your way through the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) curriculum. Your theoretical learning will support your practical skills, and you will be paid for class attendance.
You will be supported every step of the way, by your qualified trainers, experienced staff and Uniting’s Local Project Coordinator. Please note, you will not be employed by Uniting unless stated otherwise. On successful completion you will be awarded your nationally recognised qualification and will be ready for a career as a Support Worker in your chosen field.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
Applicants must:
- Have full rights to work, study and complete a traineeship in Australia;
- Be available to work a variety of shifts
- Have an influenza vaccination prior to commencing work experience [as per government requirements]
- Be willing to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children’s Check
- Possess English proficiency (effective communication and comprehension skills)
