About the role

  • Every year approx 1000 adolescents and young adults are diagnosed with cancer
  • Help young people deal with the challenges of cancer
  • Suits health service delivery and stakeholder management backgrounds

The Organisation
 
For 30 years Canteen has been supporting young cancer patients, young people dealing with the grief of losing a loved one, and young people who have a sibling or parent with cancer. In addition to a range of support programs, Canteen provides specialist, youth-specific treatment and clinical trials programs.

These include the Youth Cancer Service which delivers age appropriate medical, nursing and psychosocial services to young cancer patients across Australia, and the Australian Young Cancer Patient Clinical Trials Initiative funded through the Medical Research Future Fund which supports nationally coordinated clinical trials for young cancer patients.

The Role
 
In this role you will have strategic oversight, engagement and influence of the federally funded Youth Cancer Service (YCS) and the Australian Young Cancer Patient Clinical Trials Initiative.

Working closely with project partners including government health departments, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, clinical trial developers, groups and committees, you will:

  • Be the primary liaison for all reporting and contract management
  • Ensure successful delivery of project outcomes
  • Manage financial performance, legal, risk, communications, ethics and compliance

Skills Required
 
You have a health service delivery management background including the implementation and monitoring of funded initiatives and contracts and you’re driven by a leadership style that maintains professional internal and external boundaries, ensuring a culture of performance, accuracy, collaboration and respect.

You create lasting stakeholder relationships, drawing on your strong listening and questioning skills to deliver to deadline and importantly, manage the implementation process of other stakeholders.

Along with tertiary qualifications in health or a relevant field, you’re able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of health & policy and factors influencing policy direction & reform
  • Team management skills
  • Strong project management and planning skills
  • Ability to produce high quality and persuasive written material
  • Experience working with & reporting to a board or at senior levels
