Haven; Home, Safe is the leading provider of end-to-end supports and housing services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in victoria.

The Role:

The Private Rental Assistance Program (PRAP) is intended to enable early intervention and provide support to vulnerable households who are at risk in the private rental market. The initiative will provide financial and practical assistance to establish and maintain tenancies for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in our community, and people living in social housing who would like to relocate to the private sector. 

Key responsibilities:

• Provide Systems Integration – advocacy with other relevant service providers
• Support private rental tenancies at risk via early intervention through the administration and distribution of brokerage funding.
• Assist people who have the capacity to sustain private rental to enter the market.
• Provide Targeted Preventative Programs – education and training for those with no rental history and/or need for support.
• Generate access to housing opportunities in the private rental market for low income or disadvantaged households at risk of homelessness.

What you’ll need to succeed:

• Knowledge of the barriers to private rental faced by homeless and at-risk households and of the strategies that may be used to overcome these.
• Knowledge of the structural causes of homelessness and disadvantage.
• Knowledge of the local Real Estate sector in regards to access and affordability of rental properties.
• Demonstrated experience in working within a partnership approach.
• A sound knowledge of housing options and what is required to access private rental housing.
