About the role
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Governance and Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s governance, planning, human resources, IT and stakeholder engagement systems, policies and procedures. The role will involve line management of the Administration Officer and working closely with the Finance Manager.
The role will involve providing strategic and operational support to the CEO to advance VA’s vision, mission, and objectives to advance and increase volunteering, through being a strong and respected voice for volunteering and civic participation in Australia.
The Governance and Operations Manager will need to have sound competencies across administration, planning, budgeting, project management, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
Ideally the Governance and Operations Manager will be based in Canberra, however applicants outside the Canberra region will be considered.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen/permanent resident or have a suitable visa that allows permanent work in Australia in order to apply for this position.
The position is around 25 hours per week, although hours can be negotiated.

DUTIES:
- Work in partnership with the CEO, Volunteering Australia team and the Board to manage the strategic plan, annual operating plans, and work plans, including development of detailed monitoring and performance reports.
- Ensure that VA complies with its legal and statutory obligations.
- Provide secretariat support for the Board, committees and working groups as required including the preparation, distribution and publication of meeting agendas and associated papers, and recording and dissemination of minutes.
- Report on and follow up decisions and actions arising from board and committee meetings.
- Oversee IT systems including acting as the system administrator, undertaking risk management and business continuity planning.
- Oversee human resources including managing policies and processes, workforce planning, providing advice and ensuring adherence to legislative provisions including WHS.
- Manage key stakeholder relationships including with VA’s core partners.
- Actively seek to understand, represent, and support VA’s strategic direction and organisation position to all stakeholders, internally and externally.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Demonstrated experience of managing governance and planning systems, including report writing.
- Strong human resources, risk management and business development skills.
- Proven ability to lead and support organisational objectives through working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Superior communication and influencing skills, including the ability to represent the organisation to its stakeholders, communicate complexity effectively and inspire and build consensus amongst competing perspectives.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain ongoing stakeholder and partnership relationships.
- Proficient in the use of digital platforms and Microsoft Office applications
REMUNERATION:
$92,700 – $104,400 (SCHADS AWARD Level 6.0 to 7.0) pro rata, depending on experience, plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.
