The Organisation
 
The Victorian Ombudsman (VO) promotes fairness, integrity and respect for human rights. It holds the Victorian public sector accountable to the people of Victoria. The Ombudsman’s public reports are only the tip of the iceberg of the work of the office. A dedicated team deal with complaints on the phone, online and email, on a multitude of themes, from public housing, prisons to parks, roads, rates and rubbish. VO managed over 18,000 complaints in 2020/21 ending, at times, long drawn out disputes. The VO secured outcomes ranging from waiving fines and fees, overturning decisions and prompting reviews of decisions.

The Role
 
The Audit and Risk Management Committee assists the Ombudsman in maintaining good corporate governance. Supporting the Ombudsman to ensuring fair and reasonable decision making, you will be asked to commit to:

• Attending 4 meetings per annum, conducted during the week for 2 hours
• Pre-reading of papers, agendas, minutes, motions in preparation for meetings
• Considering issues raised in documents before scheduled meetings
• Contributing to the discussions and resolution of items/issues at meetings.

Whatever your career is on a day-to-day basis, you are able to bring to the committee a knowledge of your community and lived experience. You’re connected with its commitment to ensure fairness for Victorians and have a passion for social justice and to uphold fair and reasonable decision making within the public sector.

Ideally but not essentially you have some experience in board governance or committee involvement.
