About the role
- Exceptional co-leadership opportunity in a unique regional setting
- Inspire a team of passionate, emerging leaders
- Support the preservation of Martu's rich culture and practices
The organisation
Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) exists to work with Martu building pathways to sustainability on a wide range of cultural, environmental, and social initiatives that preserve Martu’s rich cultural identity and contributes to conservation projects of global significance. KJ is a Martu organisation that operates in several Western Australian desert communities aiming to preserve Martu culture, to build a viable, sustainable economy in Martu communities and to build realistic pathways for young Martu to a healthy and prosperous future.
KJ does not operate with a single CEO, but with three General Managers who perform that leadership function jointly as the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT). Each General Manager in effect has two roles: specialised, individual responsibility for a key focus of the company, and, through the CLT, contribution to the collective responsibility for the CEO role.
The role
The newly created General Manager Organisational Development (GMOD) role spans across the organisation and is centrally focussed on organisational culture and capability, and how the organisation does its work. The GMOD is a leader, enabler facilitator, and motivator who provides the glue across the organisation and “oils” the various parts, working in a complex cross-cultural environment. The key purpose of the role is to lead and help managers and staff at all levels to design and implement ways to ensure that their work is informed by, and remains true to, KJ’s organisational culture and its strategic values.
This position demands strategic skills, a capacity for innovation and creativity, an understanding of community development and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. The GMOD is expected to nurture an Action-Reflection ethos and a culture of sharing, respect, and accountability, and will lead strategies for recruitment, staff support and professional development.
To be successful in this role you will have an inspiring and visionary leadership style that motivates and builds relationships based on trust and transparency with experience working in an equivalent sized organisation in a cross-cultural context with diverse groups and backgrounds; demonstrated experience in building teams, managing people and facilitating a productive and positive organisational culture; experience in working with boards to develop and implement high-quality strategic and operational plans; have the ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders; possess a consultative, active listening style and have a genuine commitment to Indigenous empowerment and advancement combined with a demonstrated ability to adhere to KJ’s ethics, values and principles.
