The Organisation: 

Our client provides information to and represents the interests of, its youth-oriented community group. It undertakes strategic policy and advocacy work for the benefit of its members.

 

The Role: 
In this newly created position, reporting to the CEO, you will manage the Policy and Advocacy Team to implement and execute the client’s advocacy and campaign work. The role will:
  • Develop organisational goals and strategy recommendations for the CEO, Board and Representative Council.
  • Report to the CEO and Board the Policy & Advocacy Team’s activities and alignment with the client’s strategic direction.
  • Undertake regular planning sessions to ensure Policy & Advocacy Officers’ work aligns with the client’s operational plan.
  • Develop engagement frameworks and regularly consult members to influence policy strategy and submissions.
  • Prepare letters, media pieces, submissions, lobbying documents and other relevant documents for the clients’ campaigns and their spokespeople.
  • Work with other managers to plan and deliver events and activities that engage members with the client’s representation and advocacy.

The Person: 

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • A degree and subsequent relevant experience of at least 4 years in public policy, social policy, sociology or related fields.
  • Leadership skills in similar organisations.
  • Experience managing staff and overseeing campaign and policy work.
  • Ability to create high-level operational project plans that drive the success of the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
  • Highly developed project management skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • An understanding of the broader student political landscape and its key advocacy areas such as education quality and accessibility, mental health, diversity and inclusion, research, sustainability, academic integrity and employability.
  • Experience managing and responding to submissions at all government levels.
The Offer:
This is a full-time role with an attractive salary package circa $115K including superannuation. There is an EBA negotiation under way with the annual salary package moving to circa $126k by the end of the year, with annual 3% increases for the next 3 years.

 

This hybrid role also includes a generous 25 days of annual leave, 15 days of sick leave provisions, 10 days of mental health leave and 1 rostered day off per month.
