Mental Health Australia is the nationally based non-government peak body that supports the interests of the mental health sector in Australia and advocates for systemic reform across the mental health ecosystem. Established in 1997 members include consumer and carer organisations, professional bodies, researchers, as well as a wide range of private and public service providers.
With over 1 in 5 Australians facing mental health issues, Mental Health Australia seeks to advocate on behalf of its members to influence government policies and reform and has a vision to create the best mental health system in the world supporting mentally healthy people and mentally health communities. In partnership with the Board, the CEO is responsible for continuing to bring Mental Health Australia’s strategic plan to life, translating it into actionable plans and delivering on successful outcomes, carefully balancing the impact agenda with the ability to deliver operational excellence and financial sustainability. The CEO will be expected to provide leadership and inspiration for staff, members, partners, stakeholders and the community in the pursuit of Mental Health Australia’s purpose. The CEO will promulgate Mental Health Australia’s key policy positions and influence improved outcomes.
To be successful, you will have an inspirational leadership style that engages easily and credibly with a diverse group of stakeholders including staff, the Board, Mental Health Australia members, funding bodies, parliamentarians, government agencies and where appropriate organisations representing people with a lived experience. You will have proven ability to lead and foster a culture of innovation, be outcomes focused and bring knowledge of government policy formulation, processes and funding arrangements and have significant experience, and genuine commitment to, working with mental health communities and ecosystems.
