We have an ongoing opportunity for an Assistant Public Guardian to join our team.
- 1x Ongoing full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week.
- Location: Sydney. Flexible and remote working options available.
- Clerk Grade: 11/12. Base salary $134,411 pa to $155,445 pa plus super and annual leave loading.
About the team
The Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who are unable to on their own, or with support. These include decisions such as where a person might live, their medical and dental treatment, health care, and other services. It also provides information and support to private and enduring guardians, service providers and the wider community.
About the role
The Assistant Public Guardian, Establishment, and Quality Assurance provides leadership that drives a focus on effective operations to support streamlined and efficient customer service. This includes customer onboarding and revocation, and targeted interventions tailored to the customer journey for guardianship services. The role will manage the staffing and financial resources of the unit and ensure decision-making aligns with NSW Trustee and Guardian’s strategic direction and promotes organisational objectives.
The role works closely with the Public Guardian leadership team to drive consistent guardianship practice and strategic direction supported by ongoing quality customer service and assurance mechanisms, dynamic operational systems and strategic collaboration with stakeholders.

About you
You are a high caliber leader who has a passion for excellent customer service, and experience in building a culture of continuous improvement. You are a skilled leader who is able to motivate and provide clear strategic direction to your team, and influence change across teams. You have experience in understanding customer journeys and how improvements can be implemented and measured.
You know how to build strong working relationships to enhance collaboration and communicate effectively with leaders, staff, and key stakeholders. You will be passionate about driving best practice and optimal outcomes for customers. You are dynamic leader who can identify and respond to operational and systemic issues and provide high level advice to the Public Guardian and the leadership team to meet operational demands. Demonstrated knowledge of guardianship practice is highly desirable.
Essential requirements
- A degree or equivalent experience in social, health, behavioral sciences or related discipline.
- Demonstrated leadership skills for the delivery of services in a complex customer environment and experience in embedding quality assurance practices and measures.
- An ability to solve complex human service problems with limited human and financial resources.
- An ability to develop strong interagency networks that generate positive outcomes for customers.
- Available to travel throughout NSW and to undertake on call responsibilities to provide support and delegated decision making on a rotational basis.
