Health Justice Australia (HJA) is a national charity established in 2016 as a centre of excellence for health justice partnership. Health Justice Australia supports the expansion and effectiveness of health justice partnerships through: 

  • Knowledge and its translation: developing evidence and translating that evidence into knowledge that is valued by practitioners, researchers, policy-makers and funders. 
  • Building capability: supporting practitioners to work collaboratively, including through brokering, mentoring and facilitating partnerships. 
  • Driving systems change: connecting the experience of people coming through health justice partnerships, and their practitioners, with opportunities for lasting systems change through reforms to policy settings, service design and funding.

About the role

As Health Justice Australia emerges out of our start-up phase, we’re implementing new communication strategies to help us drive our impact. The Communications Lead is a new role responsible for executing and measuring the success of Health Justice Australia’s communications strategies. This includes managing our website, social media platforms, email marketing campaigns, and other digital channels.   

This position would suit someone with a passion for social justice and a commitment to promoting positive change through their work. They will bring a strong understanding of digital marketing, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to the role.   

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience in communications with a digital focus, including social media, electronic direct mail and website management. Proficiency in graphic design software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite are also an advantage. 

This role will report to the Communications Manager and supervise the Communications Coordinator, and will work closely with people across the organisation. 

Roles and responsibilities  

Supervised by the Communication Manager, this position will collaborate both internally and externally to implement activities under Health Justice Australia’s communication strategy by: 

  • Developing and implementing effective digital communication plans and strategies that align with Health Justice Australia’s strategic priorities. 
  • Managing and updating Health Justice Australia’s website and social media platforms to effectively communicate our impact and goals to a diverse audience. 
  • Creating engaging and visually appealing digital content, including graphics, videos and blog posts. 
  • Developing and executing engaging email marketing campaigns, including ownership of templates, segmentation and tracking. 
  • Collaborating with other team members across the organisation to ensure brand consistency across all digital channels and to share our stories of impact in a compelling and impactful way.   
  • Analysing and reporting on the success of digital communications efforts, using tools such as Google Analytics, and using insights to continually improve and refine our digital strategy. 
  • Staying up to date with the latest digital marketing trends and technologies, and seeking new and innovative ways to reach and engage our stakeholders. 
  • Other duties as required. 

Essential criteria  

  • Experience in developing and delivering social media plans in an organisational or campaign context 
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in using email marketing platforms to drive engagement in diverse audience segments. 
  • Working knowledge of electronic marketing processes and principles, including monitoring and legal requirements. 
  • Experience managing websites in an organisational context, including content management systems (preferably WordPress), SEO and Google Analytics. 
  • High-level understanding of graphic design principles and practices and experience at designing a variety of communications materials in digital and print formats. 
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing or a related field. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Good organisational skills, including capacity to manage changing priorities, deliver work to agreed deadlines and work effectively as part of a team.  

 

Desirable criteria  

  • Working knowledge of graphic design and content creation software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. 
  • Demonstrated capacity and commitment to working collaboratively. 
  • Commitment to the values of social justice, and a genuine interest in and awareness of the challenges of improving outcomes for clients vulnerable to complex needs.
