About the role

Non-Executive Director – Yarra Energy Foundation

  • Catalyse equitable, renewable, resilient energy ecosystems
  • Engage local communities to be part of the solution
  • Unlock innovation at scale, addressing complex climate challenges

The Yarra Energy Foundation is seeking expressions of interest for two non-executive directors to join its established and experienced Board.

The Organisation

Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) is a for-purpose not-for-profit organisation with big ambitions for a zero-carbon future.

The organisation enables individuals and communities to cut their energy emissions, and has

established a leading position community energy storage, including launching Victoria’s first inner urban community battery. They play a unique and trusted role bringing together private and public partnerships to deliver better energy within our communities. There is a high demand for YEF’s services as they continue to expand their work in solar, business energy and community engagement.

The Role

YEF is growing rapidly with new demand for its specialist services in addressing the climate challenge – combining technical and commercial skills in concert with industry and community partnerships. This presents the organisation with opportunities and challenges in revenue diversification, as YEF positions itself strategically within the energy and environment ecosystem.

To support its ongoing growth, YEF’s established board currently has two vacancies for Non-Executive Directors to join in a voluntary capacity.

To fulfil these roles, YEF is seeking two individuals with energy sector experience, governance capabilities and strong networks including the following:

  • Energy markets – some experience working within the energy/renewables market
  • Strategy and risk – an understanding of not-for-profit innovation and growth strategy
  • Finance and accounting – accounting compliance, solvency, cashflow, contract risk
  • Networks – influence with key Australian energy ecosystem players, which can be activated to support YEF’s mission.

These core skills will ideally be combined with one or more of the following skill sets:

  • Commercial savvy in a not-for-profit context – including income diversification.
  • Community, partner and stakeholder engagement
  • Delivering innovation in commercial or NFP settings
  • Experience as an independent Non-Executive Director or working with Boards.

YEF directors will also comply with the requirements described in the Corporations Act and the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission Act.

Board members will be expected to attend approximately 6 board meetings (many virtual) during the year, to participate in at least one Board Committee, and contribute time to YEF outside of board meetings There is an opportunity for Directors to be ‘hands on’ at times given that YEF is a small not-for-profit organisation.

About You

YEF’s Board is united in purpose, and you will be joining a group that is truly committed to driving action on climate. This role suits a professional with a passion for contributing to the energy transition, directly at a local-level, and ideally experience working with Boards or as a Board member. You are aligned to the mission of YEF and passionate about their innovative projects that have transformational potential to reduce carbon emissions at the speed and scale demanded by the climate emergency.

The Rewards

YEF looks forward to welcoming you to the team to help embrace future strategic, operational and cultural shifts while transitioning communities to renewable and resilient energy systems.
