About the role

Community Health Promotion Officer: Sexual Domestic & Family Violence

This is a unique opportunity to join ACON and support the development and implementation of ACON’s sexual, domestic and family violence campaigns, programs, research and resources.

  • Help contribute to the safety of our communities by working to prevent and respond to violence against LGBTQ+ people, and provide information to people who have experienced or used violence.
  • Join a highly motivated and enthusiastic team focused on LGBTQ+ health and safety.

The Role:

ACON is seeking a committed and vibrant person to support the delivery and implementation of ACON’s sexual, domestic and family violence campaigns, programs, research and resources. We are looking for someone who has:

  • Knowledge of the issues involved in preventing and responding to sexual, domestic and family violence among sexuality and gender diverse communities.
  • Previous experience in domestic and family violence work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion and community development projects.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills including computer literacy and social media capability.
  • High level written and oral communication skills including the ability to negotiate with a range of stakeholders and demonstrated ability to produce professional documents, briefings and reports.
  • An understanding of and commitment to ACON’s communities, particularly Aboriginal people, people living HIV, people from sexuality and gender diverse communities, sex workers, and people who use drugs.
  • Must be able to provide evidence of full and current Covid 19 Vaccination, in addition to any other vaccination required to perform the role.

Location and position details:

This position is a 5 day per week role (35 hours), on a contract until 30 June 2024. However, for the right candidate, this position can be offered as a Part-time role, not less than 4 days (28 hours) per week. ACON offers flexible working arrangements, with the ability to work from home. However, we are looking for a person that can attend and deliver in-person workshops and community events, and work from ACON’s Sydney (Surry Hills) office when required.
