About the role

We’re looking for a professional Research Editor with relevant experience who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference on a permanent part-time basis, working 30.4 hours per week based in Fitzroy.

THE ROLE

The Research Editor has a critical role in ensuring that our advocacy and influencing agenda is supported with quality reports and other publications to disseminate the research findings of the BSL. The role includes:

  • undertaking major structural editing, copy editing and proofreading of BSL research reports, policy submissions, working papers and other published materials, ensuring appropriateness, quality and consistency across research and policy documents
  • managing the publishing and quality control process of BSL’s research and policy publications and ensuring a high standard of design of reports and publications
  • providing high-level guidance and training to SPARC, and other BSL staff as required, on developing and structuring their analysis
  • managing and implementing the regular production of the BSL e-newsletter on the organisation’s research, policy and advocacy
  • writing/adapting, editing and uploading research and policy content for the BSL’s website and for other dissemination channels as required

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for someone who has the following key skills and experience:

  • relevant qualifications and experience in editing, writing or a communications field
  • proven capacity in copy editing and structural editing of long, formal and complex documents
  • proven high-level capacity in supervising researchers on developing the structure of their arguments for research report
  • demonstrated experience in and knowledge of publications and publishing
  • high level written and English expression skills
  • proven ability to assist researchers to improve their writing, including through developing and delivering writing workshop
  • proven experience in project management
  • accredited with IPEd
