The McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer (the Centre) is a joint initiative of Cancer Council and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Its mission is to contribute to the effective use of law for cancer prevention, treatment, supportive care and research globally. The Centre conducts research, policy development and training, and develops and disseminates materials on the relationship between law and cancer control. The Centre collaborates with key international organisations including the World Health Organization and is a WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Knowledge Hub.

About the role

About your opportunity

We are seeking a Legal Research Officer to join the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer. Reporting to the Manager – Prevention your role is to:

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analyse relevant international and domestic legal and policy documents in relation to law and noncommunicable diseases prevention and related issues in global health, particularly in relation to tobacco control
  • Draft high-quality written materials, including online content, academic publications, case summaries, research papers, fact sheets, submissions and reports for a range of target audiences and key stakeholders
  • Develop and deliver training curricula and materials, and seminars, lectures and presentations both in-person and online

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Relevant tertiary degree in law and admission to legal practice or eligibility for admission to practice in Victoria
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with researchers and other internal and external stakeholders
