The Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB) aims to improve the dental health of all Victorians, promoting the highest standards of practice and enhancing the professional lives of members.
  
Your brief is to work with the Council to ensure ADAVB’s viability and sustainability through the judicious utilisation of the organisation’s human, financial and physical resources.
  
You are an accomplished association executive with a proven record of success in stakeholder engagement and membership development. Ideally having a working knowledge of the healthcare arena, you combine business acumen with outstanding leadership skills and emotional intelligence.

Position Profile

Job Statement
The primary purpose of the role of Chief Executive Officer is to ensure the ADAVB’s long term viability and sustainability, through the judicious utilisation of all available resources.

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the Branch Council for the leadership and management of the Branch Secretariat. Such responsibilities include:
(a) Implementing policies and directions of the Branch Council.
(b) Undertaking investigations and providing information and advice to the Branch President, and the Branch Council.

A key focus of the role is to build the membership of the ADAVB, by ensuring that it consistently adds value to the current membership, and that it capitalises on opportunities to attract new constituents.

Duties

Capability
Duties and responsibilities shall initially include, but are not limited to, the following:
(a) Maintain and enhance the systems and administrative functions of the Branch.
(b) Create an environment for staff, volunteers and members that is positive, respectful, inclusive and nurturing.
(c) Provide support services to meetings including of the Branch Council, State Delegates Forums, Committee Meetings, and General Meetings of the Association.
(d) Attend meetings including of the Branch Council, General Meetings of the Branch and State Delegates Forums.
(e) Prepare and maintain Branch Council and administrative policy documents, Manuals registers, contracts, agreements, membership databases and ensure compliance with Privacy legislation.
(f) Build membership and lead member retention and acquisition strategies.
(g) Oversee Branch communications, including the website and social media channels.
(h) Coordinate the production of the Branch’s Annual Report, Strategic Plan and Risk Management Inventory.
(i) Manage the Branch finances to ensure financial viability of the Branch.
(j) Prepare annual financial documents.
(k) Participate in local and interstate meetings, conferences and functions out of business hours, as required.

Oral Health
(a) Coordinate oral health promotion and patient education activities conducted by the Branch.
(b) Liaise and cooperate with other health promotion bodies in support of the Branch’s oral health promotion objectives.
2.3 Dental Workforce Education and Training
(a) Monitor dental workforce policy and data, making sure that the Branch Council is well briefed.
(b) Liaise with relevant dental training institutions to represent the interests of the ADAVB and the dental profession in general.
(c) Keep Branch Council informed of issues which have strategic impact on the ADAVB

Professional Development
(a) Supervise and coordinate the development and delivery of continuing professional development programs for members and their staff.
(b) Facilitate professional development for the Branch Secretariat, Branch Council and Standing Committees.

Dental Practice Safety & Quality
(a) Advise members of pertinent legislation affecting them and their employees.
(b) Supervise and coordinate practice support services for members and their staff.
(c) Promote and support independent clinical and business practice by members.
(d) Support employed members including those in public dentistry
(e) Monitor legal and practice issues affecting members in relation to organisations including health insurers and government bodies.
(f) Liaise with statutory bodies on their dental schedules and fee scales.

Leadership
(a) Prepare submissions, analyses and reports to support the objectives and policies of the ADAVB.
(b) Liaise and develop conduits and contacts with State Government, and Members of the Victorian Parliament.
(c) Monitor and brief Branch Council on dental public affairs, constantly monitoring and evaluating current government policy and possible legislative changes.
(d) Liaise with stakeholders including Dental Health Services Victoria, public health care providers, other professional associations, the Australian Dental Industry Association, other industry bodies, commercial organizations, and regulatory and statutory bodies to maintain a high level of awareness of, and input into, matters of concern to the ADAVB.
(e) Promote and enhance the affairs of the Branch through a positive “Public Relations” attitude in all dealings with Members, Government, other associations and the public.
(f) Liaise and work with the Federal ADA, and other ADA Branches, to provide a conduit for the flow of information and efficiencies between these bodies in the interests of ADAVB members and the dental profession in general.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL
• Formal qualifications in management or a related discipline
• Significant experience in strategic planning, financial and risk management
• Proven track record in leading and motivating teams
• Managerial experience in a membership-based organisation
• Superior stakeholder management skills

DESIRABLE
• Exposure to the health sector
• Experience as a CEO reporting to a board
• Formal training in governance
